ALBINO
Albino Dachshund (Completely white with pink points)
Albino dachshunds are completely white and have pink noses, eye rims and paw pads. They are usually confused for white, but a white dachshund’s nose and eye rims will usually be completely black, not pink. Some albinos are only partially albino, meaning they have some small spots of black or brown on their white coats. Albinos are considered rare because they happen due to a genetic mutation resulting in a loss of pigmentation.

Chocolate dachshunds that don’t have any cream or tan markings on them are extremely hard to find! These dogs are a solid rich, chocolate brown color. The chocolate coat is recessive and only has a small amount of eumelanin. Too much eumelanin would result in a black coat, instead of chocolate. Unfortunately chocolate is not considered a standard dachshund color so you will not see any chocolate pups in a show ring anytime soon.

CREAM
Cream Dachshund (Golden brown all over, with slight reddish tones)
Cream dachshunds should be a mid-golden brown color all over with slight reddish hues. American cream pups should not be confused with English creams, which have real British lineage in their blood. The easiest way to tell the difference is by looking at their coat length as English creams only come in the longhaired variety. American creams come in both short and longhaired types. If your pup does not come with an authentic pedigree showing British lineage you have a regular American cream.

Red Dachshund (A deep, rusty red color)
Red dachshunds are a stunning deep, rusty brown color. Solid reds should not have any markings or areas of darker colors throughout their coats. Red is a fairly common dachshund color because only one copy of the dominant red gene is needed to breed them. There is not much to say about them, but they are extremely beautiful and have no problem standing out.
Shaded Red Dachshund (A deep, rusty red with black tips on the end of the hairs)
